LITERACY PROGRAMS

Teen Read2Lead

A six to eight-week course that promotes character building through literacy and encourages reading as a path to achieve goals and realize dreams. Teen participants receive a certificate of achievement upon completion of the program. The small classes are co-led by a Literacy Pros Board Member and a local law enforcement officer and include a mentoring component to identify how to best help and encourage the students. Teen Read2Lead is available to any organization focused on helping students improve literacy skills as a path to success.

#BLUE4BOOKS

An early learning reading program that promotes literacy skills and builds trust between children and uniformed law enforcement officers. An interactive experience where children read books and work with officers to complete crafts and activities that correspond to monthly book selections. Schools, daycare facilities, churches and after-school programs are encouraged to contact Literacy Pros of Jacksonville to develop a #BLUE4BOOKS program at no charge. Fun and exciting, #BLUE4BOOKS reading sessions with members of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and Clay County Sheriff’s Office are accessible by clicking below

Senior Memoirs

Studies show the benefits of continued literacy, reading for pleasure, writing for communication, and overall intergenerational activity for senior citizens is extremely impactful to overall health. for these reasons and many more, Literacy Pros is proud to sponsor the Senior Citizen Literacy Program “Memoirs and Memories” in partnership with the Johnson Family YMCA.

Facilitated by Literacy Pros of Jacksonville volunteer(s), the group of seniors meets monthly to:
  • Read and discuss selected memoir
  • Craft and create their own memoir
  • Field trips and movies to supplement the selected book discussion
  • Guest speakers
  • Intergenerational literacy activities with the Johnson YMCA Teens
