LITERACY PROGRAMS

Teen Read2Lead

A six to eight-week course that promotes character building through literacy and encourages reading as a path to achieve goals and realize dreams. Teen participants receive a certificate of achievement upon completion of the program. The small classes are co-led by a Literacy Pros Board Member and a local law enforcement officer and include a mentoring component to identify how to best help and encourage the students. Teen Read2Lead is available to any organization focused on helping students improve literacy skills as a path to success.

#BLUE4BOOKS

An early learning reading program that promotes literacy skills and builds trust between children and uniformed law enforcement officers. An interactive experience where children read books and work with officers to complete crafts and activities that correspond to monthly book selections. Schools, daycare facilities, churches and after-school programs are encouraged to contact Literacy Pros of Jacksonville to develop a #BLUE4BOOKS program at no charge. Fun and exciting, #BLUE4BOOKS reading sessions with members of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and Clay County Sheriff’s Office are accessible by clicking below

Members of the Youth Leadership Council will work to promote youth literacy in our community through engaging events and content, curate reading lists for the Literacy Pros Teen Read2Lead program, help recruit members to the Teen Read2Lead cohort, serve as reading tutors and volunteer at various Literacy Pros events.  Local students are encouraged to apply.

VOLUNTEERS ARE OUR MOST IMPORTANT RESOURCE. WE COULD NOT DO WHAT WE DO WITHOUT YOU.

INMATE TUTOR TRAINING

Since our founding in 2003, Literacy Pros of Jacksonville has partnered with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to train inmates to tutor fellow inmates. This program continues today to help inmates improve literacy skills as needed to reduce recidivism, improve life skills and increase rates of successful employment and reentry upon release.

Correctional, reentry and rehabilitation facilities are encouraged to contact Literacy Pros to develop a #Blue4Books, Teen Read2Lead or literacy tutor program at no charge.

Health & Wealth

These inclusive programs focus on family-centric healthy lifestyles and basic financial literacy. These courses are developed by subject matter experts and mentored by Literacy Pros volunteers or tutors certified in health and wealth.
