A Legacy of Literacy and Gratitude

In 2003, a small but passionate group of volunteers came together with a shared belief — that literacy has the power to change lives. From that belief, Literacy Pros of Jacksonville was born. What began as a simple yet powerful idea — training inmates to teach their peers how to read — grew into a mission that has impacted countless lives over the past 23 years.

As volunteers and staff, we have had the privilege of witnessing transformation in its truest form. We have seen individuals gain not only the ability to read, but also the confidence, dignity, and hope needed to build a better future. We have seen learners become teachers, and teachers become leaders. These moments have defined our work and continue to inspire us.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported Literacy Pros of Jacksonville throughout the years. To the City of Jacksonville, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the Jacksonville Public Library, our community partners, and especially our dedicated volunteers—thank you. Your time, compassion, and belief in this mission made all of this possible.

To the learners who trusted us and embraced this journey — thank you. Your perseverance and determination have left a lasting impact on all of us.

In our continued spirit of growth, responsiveness to changing needs, and commitment to our shared future, we are pleased to announce that the Literacy Alliance of Northeast Florida will be taking over the reins of our signature inmate tutoring program.

Our organizations share a common purpose, and we are confident that this important work will continue to grow and reach even more individuals in need under their leadership. We look forward to the future of this collaboration and all that it will accomplish.
