GIVING BACKDonations, Volunteers and Literacy Pros Annual Awards
Literacy fosters communication, thought, self-respect, ideas, political awareness, and most of all success in a society where everyone has a chance and a voice.
Annually we host an awards gala to honor local literacy champions and generate awareness for literacy issues in Jacksonville and the surrounding area. Literacy volunteers and professionals are honored and awarded for their contributions to literacy programs or projects. Award nominations may be submitted to any Literacy Pros of Jacksonville Board Director or via the Contact page.
Volunteers are our most important resource. We could not do what we do without you. From reading to children, organizing events, outreach and fundraising – volunteers allow us to keep fighting for universal literacy in our community. You can be a part of a movement to help educate both youth and adults who desperately need to learn the fundamentals of reading and writing to improve their education and quality of life. We are looking for a variety of professionals to volunteer as guest readers. Donate an hour of your time to read to local kids, make crafts and talk about your career. Reach out today and see how you can help make a difference.
WE THANK OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS AND FRIENDS FOR HELPING MAKE LITERACY PROS A SUCCESS.
INMATE TUTOR TRAINING
Since our founding in 2003, Literacy Pros of Jacksonville has partnered with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to train inmates to tutor fellow inmates. This program continues today to help inmates improve literacy skills as needed to reduce recidivism, improve life skills and increase rates of successful employment and reentry upon release.
Correctional, reentry and rehabilitation facilities are encouraged to contact Literacy Pros to develop a #Blue4Books, Teen Read2Lead or literacy tutor program at no charge.
